7 Pounds

December 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This conversation took place today after we watched the movie 7 Pounds , which I thought was a going to have a lot more mystery and suspense. I mean, when I saw Rosario Dawson and Will Smith promoting it on shows like Oprah, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Good Morning America (I’ve been watching wayyyyy too much daytime TV) they kept talking about how mysterious it all was, but really you could figure out what was going to happen in like the first five minutes. Anyway this is what went down:

ME: I can’t believe you cried.

JAY: I know, it was so predictable , and I haven’t cried because of a movie since like, The Lion King.

ME: Didn’t everybody cry when Mufasa died?

JAY: Ya, but tonight I was just tired.

ME: Uh huh

JAY: MUFASAAAA

I’ll give it to him, he was pretty tired.

How did my baby get Derek Zoolander’s DNA?

She calls this look Le Tigra. Or maybe it’s Blue Steel? Ferrari?

Pixar is the Shit

June 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

Maybe my daughter will look just like her.

After taking a pretty bad fall and bumping his skull, my nephew Elijah wasn’t in the mood for play time anymore. After getting babied for a while, his restless spirit decided he was tired of the same old cartoons, went over to the DVD shelving unit, demanded it be opened, and began pulling out my options for his entertainment. So began the Pixar marathon. He was mesmerized by two whole movies about talking toys, so much so he needed a break (nap time), then was in a trance as an ant saved his colony, and two monsters saved a little girl.

I had forgotten how much I loved all these movies, call me juvenile, but Pixar has never let me down. Who wouldn’t love Woody, Buzz, Dot, Flick, Boo, and Mike Wazowski? Besides, if anyone makes fun of me, I can fall back on my raging hormones excuse. Elijah better want more Pixar tomorrow, because he’s watching The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Ratatouille whether he wants to or not.

Out of Africa

I had Jay wash my hair once; he got soap in my eyes. That’ll teach me to have any desire for some extra-cheesy romance.

The Philadelphia Obsession

June 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

C. K. Dexter Haven: It’s astonishing what money can do for people, don’t you agree, Mr. Connor? Not too much, you know – just more than enough.

As I continue this venture into blogging, you’ll learn that I have an acute love for films. I actually a closet film student, meaning I am constantly scouring for as much information about film that I can find; but I can’t bring myself to change my major for reasons I’m sure I’ll get into at a later date.

The Philadelphia Story. The only thing wrong with this film in my eyes is that James Stewart won the Best Actor Oscar for it (it should have gone to Henry Fonda for The Grapes of Wrath, and Stewart should have won the previous year for his work in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) and that’s not even a flaw in the film itself. Witty dialogue, three tremendous lead actors, fantastic direction and glorious sarcasm make this film a seemingly ageless comedy of manners. I may be young, but I’m not dumb enough to not be in awe of it’s greatness. I adore it.

This line, and the whole pool scene are simple perfection.
